The “Beach History” concept promotes an uncommon approach to historical nonfiction that provides readers with a snapshot of the past. “Beach History” utilizes current research to retain historical accuracy, while dispensing with the extraneous details found in lengthy texts to instead produce a novella-sized, minimalist work of creative nonfiction.
It is Erin Frances Schulz’s intention as a writer to publish a series of biographical sketches in the “Beach History” technique to encourage new interest in the field of history. History has long been overshadowed by a reputation of drudgery that recalls rote memorization of dates and textbooks overwrought with details only an academic or scholar would be interested in reading. The “Beach History” series will hopefully open the field of history to those who would not ordinarily consider reading the genre.
